How many years does the average person spend in college for a bachelor degree?

I am in my 4th year of college and still have a 5th year to go. I keep hearing from people that it is becoming more normal to take more than 4 years to finish yet it seems all my friends are done in 4. Is it more normal to be done in 4 years for a bachelors degree or more than that?

3-5. Seriously, it depends on the program. Some Bachelor’s are 120 credits, others 150. If you take summer courses, and 21 credits (max) each semester, you can graduate in 3 years, but you’ll just have a degree, no study abroad, or internship experience, so it will harder to get a job. Many people Take easier courseloads (15 credits/semester, 13 being minimum full-time courseload) and belong to organizations (Marching Band, Clubs, Fraternities etc), do internships during the summers, study abroad a semester, and really come out of college with the sort of experiences that makes a candidate appealing to an employer. This will take 4 years minimum, and often 5. (Though you don’t want to take 6, as this is looked down upon still, you’ll be viewed by HR representatives as a possible slacker) I took 4, my 2 brothers each took 5. There was really no difference, we all found jobs in our respective professions, had decent GPAs, and earned Master’s degrees.

Bachelors is 4 years but it depends on the career (cuz of pre-requisites)

i think it depends what country are you from. Here in the UK our standard Bachelors are 3 years (longer if it’s something complicated like vetinary science or if you have a year working in industry before the final year).

Honestly, from what I have heard most people have to participate in summer sessions to complete on time. Nowadays, if you don’t participate in summer sessions it will take you at least 4.5 years…..

most people finish in 4 but there are a growing number of people who need an extra semester or an an extra year. some people need more time because they change majors or took a semester off to go abroad or do other things. lots of kids in my year (‘11) took time of to campaign this past semester and will now graduate with the freshmen. Its normal and it does happen a lot nowadays…good luck
