Santa Ana College awards honorary degrees to Japanese-Americans

Around and About Orange County News, Linda Ivanov, camera, edit, reporter. Imagine that you are enrolled in college, ready to graduate, but the US Government sends you to a prison camp instead. That is exactly what happened to this group of young Japanese-Americans in the 1940s when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. Santa Ana College sought out former students who were denied their education and their degrees in light of a recent law requiring restitution. The 2011 commencement featured 20 students receiving honorary degrees, and one very happy lady who had completed all of the requirements to qualify for her AA in Botany. Linda Ivanov has the story.
